Deped probes food poisoning of students, personnel in IloIlo

The Department of Education (DepEd) Region VI is investigating the food poisoning incident on Friday, Nov. 4, involving four DepEd personnel and 16 students where one student has been declared dead.

According to the report of the Schools Division of IloIlo, the students and their adviser had bought varieties of food for their lunch and later experienced stomachache and vomiting the following day.

Some students were rushed to Barotac Viejo District Hospital for immediate proper medication.

The deceased student was rushed to Barotac Viejo District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Schools Division of IloIlo is in coordination with the Rural Health Unit of Ajuy to provide the necessary aid to the victims and to conduct investigation on the incident, according to DepEd.

Meanwhile, the local government unit of Ajuy pledged to pay all the hospital bills of the victims and provide financial aid to the family of the deceased student.

The Pili National High School and other public schools of Ajuy will also provide financial assistance to the victims, while the DepEd Regional Office VI was tasked by the Legal Unit to conduct thorough investigation on the case. – gb
