Magnitude 5.0 quake hits Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was recorded offshore of Surigao del Sur on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 27, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the tremor struck 35 kilometers (km) northeast of Cortes town.

The quake had a depth of focus of 11 km. It was tectonic in origin.

Intensity IV was reported in Cortes and Lanuza, Intensity III in Cagwait, Carrascal, and Bayabas, Intensity II in Cantilan, and Intensity I in Surigao City.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was felt in Tandag and Instrumental Intensity I in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

No damages were reported but aftershocks are expected.
