Eight members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday, Jan. 12, according to DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.

Five platoon leaders and three members of the NPA have surrendered to DILG and the PNP, according to Abalos.

Abalos did not name the returnees for their security, but said more rebels are expected to surrender in the coming days.

Abalos attributed the surrender to the government’s End the Local Communist Armed Conflict program.

Abalos assured former rebels that they will receive financial and educational aid for their children under E-CLIP. – gb
