DICT: SIM registration now at 21-M

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

The Department of Information and Technology (DICT) reported on Tuesday, Jan. 17, that SIM registration for 21,128,925 SIMs had been “completed” as of Jan.16.

According to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) data, the total represents 12.5% of the country’s 168,977,771 million subscribers.

Smart Communications Inc. reported 10,386,685 registered SIM cards, Globe Telecom Inc. has 8,963,101, and DITO Telecommunity Corp. has 1,779,139.

DICT Spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo said SIM registration performed an on-site experience in the coastal community in Masantol, Pampanga last Jan.7 to identify possible problems with SIM registration rollout in remote areas.

“The DICT is working with agencies and PTEs for the implementation of SIM registration in the country’s remote areas,” Lamentillo said.

“The first SIM registration rollout in the remote area of Masantol, Pampanga has provided valuable insights and the public can expect that SIM registration will reach the country’s far-flung areas,” she added.

Undersecretary Ivan John Uy reminded the public to be vigilant during the registration and register only through the official PTE links. – gb
