Hundreds of thousands celebrate Lunar New Year

Hundreds of thousands of people celebrated the Lunar New Year eve and welcomed the Year of the Rabbit on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Public celebrations of Lunar New Year were put on hiatus for two years due to the threat brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Manila Police District, about 600,000 individuals flocked to Chinatown in Binondo to watch the fireworks display and join the celebrations on the eve of Lunar New Year.

A short program hosted by the City Government of Manila was held before the fireworks display.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian was also present during the event. With a report from Karen Villanda
