LTO to probe ‘fake’ TNVS driver

By Gabriela Baron

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued on Tuesday, Jan. 24, a show cause order to the owner and driver of the vehicle allegedly posing as a transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) driver in attempts to ferry passengers.

This after the said vehicle made the rounds on social media for allegedly trying to pick up passengers and reportedly charging them higher fares in a mall in Quezon City.

In a statement, the LTO said it ordered the owner and driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) to appear before its office on Jan. 31 at 10:00 a.m.

The LTO ordered the driver to submit an explanation on why he should not face an administrative case for being a colorum vehicle or the possible violation of Private Motor Vehicle Operating as For-Hire under the Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.

It also ordered the driver to provide an explanation on why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jay Art Tugade said the LTO is monitoring the said vehicle to prevent it from making further transactions while investigation is underway.

“Hindi natin dapat makalimutan na ang driver’s license ay ibinibigay sa mga kuwalipikadong indibidwal bilang pribilehiyo ng gobyerno kaya’t hindi dapat inaabuso,” Tugade said.

“Mas lalong hindi pupuwede na gamitin ang pribilehiyo na ito para manloko ng mga tao lalo ng mga pasahero na desperadong makauwi o makarating sa kanilang destinasyon,” he added. -ag
