PH Air Force plane crashes in Bataan; 2 pilots dead

Two pilots were killed after a Philippine Air Force (PAF) plane crashed in Pilar, Bataan Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, its official confirmed.

The SF260TP aircraft with tail number 701 of PAF took off around 10:00 a.m. at Major Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point, Cavite City to perform a training flight.

According to PAF Public Affairs Office Chief Consuelo Castillo, the aircraft was reportedly seen to be descending to a field in Sitio Tabon at around 10:40 a.m.

“Our aircraft accident investigation team [is] already at the site for a thorough investigation, while our SF260TP fleet has been grounded,” Castillo said.

The SF260TP served as a light attack combat aircraft and was used during the Marawi Siege as well as various combat missions of the PAF.

Castillo also urged the public to refrain from spreading unconfirmed and unofficial news and pictures about the incident.

“The PAF enjoins the public to join us in condoling with the bereaved families,” she added.

Castillo also assured that necessary aid, assistance, and support will be provided to the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, no civilian casualties were reported. -ag
