Magnitude 5.0 quake hits Sarangani

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Glan, Sarangani, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 27 kilometers (km).

It hit 21 km southwest of Sarangani at 12:23 p.m.

Intensity III was felt in Jose Abad Santos and Sarangani, Davao Occidental; Glan, Sarangani, and General Santos City.

Intensity II was also felt in Don Marcelino and Malita in Davao Occidental, Alabel, Kiamba, and Malapatan in Sarangani, and Polomok in South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, the following Instrumental Intensities were reported in the following areas:

  • Intensity III – Glan, Sarangani; T’Boli, General Santos City, and South Cotabato
  • Intensity II – Talakag, Bukidnon; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Malapatan and Maitum in Sarangani; Santo Nino and Tupi in South Cotabato.
  • Intensity I – Alamada, Cotabato and Koronadal City South Cotabato.

No damages reported. Aftershocks are expected.
