Cotabato carnap syndicate busted

COTABATO CITY — Police operatives busted a motorcycle carnap syndicate here with the arrest of six suspects, two of whom are from Zamboanga City.

Sr. Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, said the arrest on Sunday dawn was launched with the active participation of Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi.

“While the city residents are sleeping soundly, Mayor Sayadi and police teams roamed around the city during wee hours to neutralize drug personalities and other crime groups,” Octavio said.

At past 11 p.m. the roving team nabbed carnap suspects Penpen Alamada Kalon, 22, his live in partner Rowena Epanto Balane 19, Alvin Mabandis Alon, 18, Guihidin Kusain Mamalas, 20, Kenneth Bandal, 20 and Jorhamin Tato Abang, 19.

Recovered from them was a newly carnapped Yamaha motorbike (2856-FF) and several “chopped” body parts of motorcycles of various model.

Octavio said the arrest was carried out after the suspects were monitored through street CCTV cameras while in the act of carnapping.

Investigation showed that the syndicate sells the carnapped motorbikes to buyers in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

Octavio appealed to victims of motorcycle theft to approach the police and file formal complaint against the suspects now detained at the city police sub-station 2. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
