6.0-magnitude quake hits waters off Davao Occidental

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit waters off Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, hit 234 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island at 4:55 p.m.

It had a depth of focus of 83 km.

Instrumental Intensity I was logged in T’Boli and Koronadal City in South Cotabato and Kiamba and Glan in Sarangani.

Phivolcs said the tremor is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.0 offshore Davao Occidental quake event last Jan. 18.

Damages and aftershocks are not expected.
