‘Amihan’, trough of LPA to bring rain showers across PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

A huge part of the country will get rain showers due to the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon or “amihan,” the weather bureau said Monday.

“This LPA is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Obert Badrina said.

The LPA’s trough, however, will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Eastern Visayas and Bohol.

PAGASA said flash floods or landslides are possible in these due to light to moderate and at times heavy rains.

Localized thunderstorms will bring isolated rain showers over Palawan and the rest of the Visayas. Flash floods or landslides may be experienced during severe thunderstorms, according to PAGASA.

The rest of Luzon will have light rain showers due to the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the eastern section of the country.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. – gb
