GSIS warns public vs. online scams, ‘banking theft’

By Janine Dumaguin

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) warned the public against online scammers amid recent “banking theft” attempts made against some of its members and pensioners.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso clarified that they “will never ask for our members’ and pensioners’ banking or e-wallet information.”

“We strongly advise our members and pensioners against giving away personal information that would compromise not only their accounts but also their safety,” he said.

The GSIS said these scammers disguise themselves as GSIS representatives, and would trick members and pensioners into divulging their confidential information.

These include their dates of birth, one-time password card verification value, personal identification number, and other unique information about their online banking accounts.

“Our members, pensioners, and stakeholders must protect their sensitive personal data in order to prevent their hard-earned money from being stolen by these scammers,” he said.

The GSIS president also urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activity or unscrupulous individual posing as a GSIS employee. -ag
