The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) warned the public against circulating text messages about “unclaimed” relief allowances  for senior citizens and retired business owners, saying that the department did not issue such a message.

This followed a report made by a concerned citizen to the agency.

“[There] is no such relief allowance that is being provided to the seniors,” the DSWD said, adding that it’s the Crisis Intervention Unit at the Central Office and in all DSWD Field Offices that provides financial aid to individuals in crisis, including senior citizens.

The DSWD reminded the public to be vigilant and to not entertain unknown individuals, and to avoid sharing personal information.

Similar incidents can be reported to the agency via [email protected].

Clients can contact the DSWD VOIP number 8931-8101 local 10125/10157 or through [email protected] regarding questions about the department’s programs for  older persons.

They can also verify information through contacting a staff member at the City/Municipal Social Welfare Office (C/MSWDO) in each city or municipal hall.

They are also advised to refer, inquire, and send concerns to DSWD’s official Facebook page, or @dswdserves, which has over 1.3 million followers.  – Katrina Gracia Consebido-ag
