Vice President Sara Duterte and House Speaker Martin Romualdez condemned the attempted assassination of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. in Maguing town on Friday, Feb. 18, that killed four of his security escorts and staff.
“I condemn the ambush that apparently targeted Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong in the town of Maguing Friday,” Duterte said.
“As a nation, we should collectively reject this cowardly act of violence and demand that the perpetrators are immediately brought to justice,” she added.
In a separate statement, Romualdez said the “senseless act of violence has no place in a civilized society like ours”
He urged law enforcement to “waste no time” in identifying the assailants and to “immediately” restore peace and order in the province.
“I want the gunmen identified and whoever is the mastermind unmasked. I want them all to be placed behind bars and brought to the bar of justice as soon as possible,” he said.
Duterte and Romualdez expressed sympathy with the slain aides’ families, and wished the governor and another injured individual a speedy recovery.
Romualdez promised to help the families with the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats set to extend “all assistance necessary.”
Adiong is the Lakas-CMD vice president for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
