The Department of Education (DepEd) clarified that the alleged overpriced camera mentioned in a post that recently went viral on social media was from a local government unit.

“The DepEd has traced a DSLR camera photo with a DepED sticker worth over 150,000 pesos,” DepEd Spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said.

“DepEd continues to call on netizens to be circumspect in their posts to ensure that no misinformation is propagated,” he added.

The DepEd also urged the public to be careful in posting online to avoid misinformation.

Meanwhile, the DepEd welcomed the report of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the alleged overpriced purchase of laptops.

“The filing of cases against past and present officials of the DepEd, as recommended by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will be referred to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) for evaluation and appropriate action,” Poa said.

“In addition, there is a pending administrative case against one Deped employee involved in the procurement,” he added. – Report from Kenneth Paciente/KC-ag
