One of the alleged suspects in the ambush of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. was killed in a shootout with authorities, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Wednesday, Feb. 22.

The attempted assassination of Adiong injured the governor and killed four of his cohorts.

PNP Chief PGen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., said alias “Otin” was killed during a pursuit operation. “Otin” was one of the five suspects responsible for the ambush.

Azurin said the suspect had a Colt MK IV caliber 45 pistol with serial number 79234 and six live rounds.

“The successful pursuit operation shows that the PNP will not tolerate lawlessness and will do everything in our power to ensure the safety and security of our people,” Azurin said.

“We condemn this senseless act of violence against our public servants. We assure the public that the PNP will exhaust all efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added.

Azurin vowed that the PNP “will not rest until those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”

The PNP also asked the public to report the other perpetrator’s whereabouts to help their investigation. – gb
