The Philippines and two of its top destinations, Intramuros and Cebu, were nominated for major awards in the Asia category of the 30th World Travel Awards (WTA).

The Philippines won Asia’s Leading Beach Destination at the 2022 WTA awards in Vietnam.

The country is competing for Asia’s Leading Dive Destination recognition, which it won four years in a row from 2019 to 2022.

Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed gratitude for recognizing the Philippines globally, as it was an indication of the country’s tourism improving after the pandemic.

“We are extremely elated upon receiving the news on these nominations at the landmark 30th anniversary of the World Travel Awards,” Frasco said.

“These recurring nominations clearly manifest the growing global travel demand into the Philippines, one that we aim to sustain in the coming days through the initiatives we have laid out for the tourism industry’s recovery and transformation post pandemic,” she added.

The Walled City of Intramuros is nominated again as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, while Cebu is nominated as Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination.

Voting for the 2023 WTA’s various categories opened on Feb. 20 and will close at midnight on Mar. 19 for travel professionals, media, and tourists. – gb
