The Manila Water implements measures as it prepares for the expected increase in demand of water supply in the summer months.
According to Manila Water, it started to “maximize production of its treatment plants and water sources,” supporting the call of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
Manila Water Chief Operating Officer for East Zone Arnold Mortera said that they are in continuous work with government agencies and local government units to ensure 24/7 uninterrupted water supply.
“These measures are part of Manila Water’s commitment to ensure that our customers continue to receive 24/7 water services especially during the summer season where demand normally spikes by 15% due to higher temperatures,” Mortera added.
Meanwhile, with 7.4 million consumers in eastern Metro Manila and Rizal, the water concessionaire started carrying out steps to meet the demand while ensuring enough water supply reserves.
In January, Manila Water launched the Novaliches-Balara Aqueduct 4 in Quezon City which ensures the reliability of water supply in the East Zone.
The water company also undertook operational adjustments in its Cardona Water Treatment Plant in Rizal to maximize daily water treatment capacity and supply high quality water to residents of several towns of Rizal Province.
It also lined up additional water sources such as the Marikina River through the 20-MLD Marikina Portable Water Treatment Plant and the newly constructed weir through the first phase of the Wawa-Calawis Water Supply System in Antipolo
According to Manila Water, on top of its measures taken, it also immediately fixed leaks and pipes as reduction of water losses is “aggressively” pursued.
Manila Water, despite water security measures, still urged the public to practice sustainable use of water to further ensure water availability and sustainability. – gb
