The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday, March 29, directed the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and local government units (LGUs) to intensify security measures for an organized Holy Week observance.

Abalos said they will maintain presence in all terminals, ports, and other areas requiring police visibility due to the anticipated influx of passengers bound for their provinces.

He also gave the PNP instructions to work with local officials in monitoring and setting up checkpoints in areas considered as “hotspots” due to political violence.

Abalos said the BFP is ready to help motorists and passengers in any emergency.

The BFP advised the public to unplug their appliances before leaving their homes to prevent fires.

LGUs were also tasked to coordinate with local officials, barangay tanods, and volunteers for the influx of people. -ag
