A vintage bomb from World War II was discovered inside the compound of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) by Manila Police District (MPD) personnel on Tuesday, April 25.

Personnel of MPD’s District Explosives and Canine Unit (DECU) carefully investigated the vintage bomb and placed it in a bucket filled with water to make sure it would not explode.

“Habang naghuhukay sila sa loob ng UST, nakita ng isang backhoe operator,” DECU-MPD Officer-in-Charge PLt. Leo Limbaga said.

“Noong nakita nila, tinawag sa engineer. Ni-relay kaagad sa security commander,” Limbaga added, noting that they temporarily restricted bystanders in the area.

The bomb was identified as an 80-year-old anti-tank rifle grenade that was still capable of exploding.

“Ito ay delikado dahil actually live pa siya, kumpleto pa ang lahat ng components niya, actually ang radius niya more or less 50 to 100 ang kaniyang damage effect kung sumabog,” Limbaga said.

The bomb is scheduled to be disposed of to ensure that it will not cause damage to the public. GB/Report from Noel Talacay -ag
