The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) spotted an eaglet of the Philippine Eagle pair Kalabugao (female) and Guilang-guilang (male) in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon last April 26.

Led by PEF Director for Research and Conservation Dr. Jayson Ibañez, with the Bantay Kalasan Forest Guards and Journalist Erwin Mascarinas, the team spotted the second eaglet of the pair.

According to PEF, the eaglet remains dependent on its parents for food and will stay in the nest for a few more months before it completely fledges.

The newly hatched eaglet is a significant milestone for the pair, who have been together for eight years and have built three nests in total.

The eaglet’s sighting coincided with the Banog Banog Aerial, Arts, Music and Food Festival, which celebrates the nesting of the Philippine eagle pair in their municipality. – gb
