The local government of Cebu City is forming a body that will supervise and regulate the operations of motor taxis or “habal-habal” drivers.

This after the Cebu City “Habal-Habal” Drivers’ Coordinating Office (CCHCO) was created under the city’s Executive Order (EO) 8 Series of 2023 to “accommodate the need and ensure the safety of the commuting public” by regulating the drivers’ services.

Under the EO, the CCHCO shall conduct information campaigns relating to road safety, rights, and obligations of “habal-habal” drivers, as well as create a database and linkage with various “habal-habal” drivers associations.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board earlier urged “habal-habal” operators to register their vehicles once the motorcycle taxi law is passed. – gb
