Cavite launches pig raising model course

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite –Cavite province has launched a model course for enhanced knowledge and skills on hog raising techniques and increase the income of hog raisers in the province.

The provincial information office told PNA on Friday that around 100 farmers from the municipalities of Ternate, Magallanes, Silang and Imus City participated in the mass launching of the Farmers’ Field School on Sustainable Pig Farming (FFS-SPF) program, held Tuesday, Dec 5, at the provincial gym here.

The model course on FFS-SPF was devised by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) for an improved technology and extension modality on pig husbandry.

The ATI-Region IVA has adopted the new course on pig farming for implementation within the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region, which ranks 2nd in the country’s hog raising occupation, per National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) regional office data.

Provincial Administrator for External Affairs Engr. Efren Nazareno has relayed Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla’s message of support during Tuesday’s event.

The farmers’ gathering also highlighted the signing of the pledge of commitment among the farmers and agriculture stakeholders to ensure the success of the program in the province.

The FFS-SPF aims to enhance the alternative, sustainable and affordable swine raising technology for commercial and backyard swine farmers, update their skills and improve their income potential.

Initially launched in Laguna, the program which runs for 16 to 20 weeks, was also launched in Quezon province.

The provincial government of Cavite, through the Provincial Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Gloria C. Digma, has initiated the program launch in partnership with the ATI Region IV-A.

Also present during Tuesday’s Cavite launch were Magallanes Mayor Jasmin Angelli M. Bautista, Sangguniang Bayan member ( town councilor) Toribio Tafalla and Engr. Freddie Sisante, Magallanes Municipal Agriculturist; Roberto Marges, City Agriculturist of Imus and Mariel Celeste Dayanghirang, Assistant Center Director of the ATI Region IV-A. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
