The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said no damages were recorded in all stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the cracks observed in Boni and Ayala stations are not a cause for alarm.

This followed the inspection conducted by rail personnel after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Calatagan, Batangas on Thursday morning, June 15. The quake was felt in Metro Manila and other provinces near Batangas.

MRT-3 officer in charge and DOTr Asec. Jorjette Aquino said the MRT-3 line is safe to continue operations as the cracks found were not dangerous.

“As a safety protocol, since cracks were observed, I directed the MRT-3 operations, maintenance and engineering personnel together with Oriental Consultants Global (OCG), the MRT-3’s consultant, to conduct in-depth inspection,” she said.

The rail line temporarily suspended operations after the quake to give way for inspections. Operations resumed at 11:35 a.m.
