The riding public will have to prepare additional cash as the fare adjustment for Light Rail Transit lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and LRT-2) will take effect on Aug. 2, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Monday, June 19.

Based on the approved fare hike, the minimum boarding fee for both lines will be P13.29 from P11.00, while the fee per kilometer will be P1.21 from the original P1.0.

The DOTr said the increase was approved by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista following a cabinet meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on June 6. This, amid easing inflation and improving employment and economic figures.

DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said the adjustment will give way for improvements on LRT system’s services, amenities, and technical capabilities.

“We are aiming to make our rail services more accessible, convenient, and efficient for commuters,” she said, adding that they “believe that this fare adjustment will contribute to maintaining affordable mass transportation services for the two commuter-train lines.”
