The Port of Manila received increased growth performance and was among the strongest in South East Asian countries, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported Tuesday night, June 20.

Based on the data from Drewry Maritime Research, the Port of Manila’s performance rose to double-digit from its last year’s performance, surpassing other regions and nations.

In 2022, it logged a total of 10.7% increase, following the 5,474,484 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) being handled, which made it the 7th busiest gateway port in South East Asia.

Different ports in the country also received huge improvement including Port of Cebu which ranked 13th and Port of Davao which at 15th spot.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said the good performance of Philippine ports indicated a continued participation in economic globalization.

“This success is a product of commitment, hard work, and transparency to create more port infrastructures that are at par with global trade.” Santiago added. – gb
