The number of rockfall events recorded in Mayon Volcano continues to increase, based on the latest bulletin on Wednesday, June 28.

In the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) logged a total of 372 rockfall events and seven dome-collapse pyroclastic density current events in the volcano.

One volcanic earthquake was also observed in Mayon, the lowest recorded number of volcanic quakes since June 24.

Phivolcs also noticed a very slow effusion of lava from the summit crater of Mayon that continued to feed lava flows and collapse debris on the Mi-isi and Bonga gullies, which have advanced to approximate lengths of 1,600 meters and 1,200 along the gullies.

The state volcanology bureau said Alert Level 3 remains over Mayon Volcano due to its relatively high level of unrest.

It noted that magma is at the crater, and hazardous eruption within days or weeks is possible. – cf
