The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains over Luzon and other parts of the country this Thursday, Aug. 3, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4:00 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will continue to experience occasional rains that may possibly bring about flooding or landslides.

Habagat will also continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the rest of Central Luzon.

Localized thunderstorms and habagat are forecast to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

Flash floods or landslides are likely.

“Itong Luzon, apektado pa rin ng habagat or southwest monsoon sa mga susunod na araw, pero bahagyang hihina na ito pagsapit ng weekend,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

“Sa Visayas, asahan ang generally mainit at maalinsangang panahon at maaliwalas na umaga. Pagsapit ng tanghali, posibleng umabot ng 33°C ang maximum temperature,” he added.

Mindanao will also have generally fair weather conditions.

Estareja said the heat index may reach 40°C in some areas in Visayas and Mindanao, including Zamboanga, General Santos, Cotabato, Butuan, and Davao City.

Meanwhile, a gale warning is currently in effect over Batanes, the northern coast of Ilocos Norte, and the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands.
