The Department of Health (DOH) said it will probe reported cases of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases linked to liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants in Batangas City.

The cases are reportedly being linked to LNG power plants exposure.

DOH Calabarzon Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia said upon the directive of DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa, they will launch an investigation to validate the reported increase in cases of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in Batangas City.

“Initially based on the pooled data of morbidity and mortality cases from the city health office, wala pa tayong nakita na maari nating ma-link sa power plant operation,” Valencia said.

“But, it would still take some time to validate the claim. Titingnan pa nating ang other relevant documents such as the baseline data on air and water quality, and most importantly, checked on the health of the affected communities,” he added.

The DOH ensured that any potential health hazards associated with exposure to LNG power plants are investigated.
