Barangay, SK elections to push through in Negros Oriental

The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will through in Negros Oriental despite calls for postponement due to peace and security concerns in the province.

In a tweet, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia announced that BSKE will proceed in Negros Oriental simultaneously with the rest of the country.

“Gusto ko lang pong i-announce na patungkol sa Nergros Oriental, ang Comelec En Banc ay nagdesisyon, unanimously, tuloy ang eleksyon sa October 30,” Garcia said.

The whole province, however, will be under Comelec control during the election period.

Appeals for BSKE postponement were first made following the assassination of late Gov. Roel Degamo and nine others on March 4.
