The removal of the window period in the current number coding scheme is not yet in effect but may be implemented soon, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

This followed MMDA’s announcement on Wednesday, Oct. 25, that it has approved a resolution for the implementation of the 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. number coding scheme.

“Napa-approve na namin siya noong October 6,” MMDA chairperson Atty. Romando Artes said, referring to the resolution.

“Medyo advance lang tayo mag-isip, buti nang handa tayo kung kailangan saka natin i-implement kaysa naman kung kailan hindi na gumagalaw ang mga sasakyan sa lansangan saka pa lamang tayo gagawa ng MMC resolution, baka mahuli,” he added.

Currently, the number coding is in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The measure seeks to address the expected heavy traffic volume as the holiday season nears.

A study will be conducted from Nov. 6 to 12.

“At the average at any given time nasa 4,000 ang dumadaan sa EDSA at mahigit naman 2,000 ang dumadaan sa C5 at any given time,” Artes said.

“Sa EDSA either side around 800 vehicles ang mababawas, at sa C5 more than 400. ‘Yan ay malaking bagay dahil 20 percent po ‘yan sa reduction of vehicles na makakapagpaluwag ng traffic,” he added. Report from Patrick de Jesus-ag
