The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a 28% drop in focus crimes from Jan. 1 to 30 this year.

In a press briefing at Camp Crame, Quezon City on Wednesday, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said a total of 2,301 focus crimes were recorded during this period, as compared to 3,223 crimes recorded in the same period last year.

Classified as focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.

“Mas mababa ng 28.61% at sana sa tulong ng ating mga kababayan para masustain natin itong pagbaba ng mga krimen. Mababa ang krimen natin at yun nagbibigay motivation sa ating mga pulis para mas lalo nilang pag-igihin yung kanilang trabaho at alam ng mga pulis kung ano yung dapat na focus at ang focus natin is to enforce the law and implement yung mga legal orders ng mga duly constituted authorities,” Fajardo said.

Meanwhile, Fajardo assured that there is no brewing destabilization plot among the PNP’s ranks.

“Kung ano man yung mga naririnig natin ay let us be cautious sa mga naririnig natin na mga bali-balita but on the part of the PNP wala tayong namo-monitor na any destabilization plot or even yung coup d’état,” she said.

She said PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.’s guidance is for police officials to remain apolitical.

“Alam natin yung ating mandato at mananatili tayo pagtupad ng ating tungkulin at kasama na diyan yung pag uphold at pagrespeto sa rule of law,” she added.
