The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) lauded on Tuesday a porter at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after he surrendered US$10,000 (about P569,710 based on prevailing exchange rate) which he found at the Terminal 1 arrival extension over the weekend.

In a news release, the MIAA said porter Victor Perez discovered the bundled 100 pieces of US$100 bills on the east bridge of the airport terminal on April 13 while he was retrieving pushcarts.

“He immediately looked for the lost and found office to turnover the huge amount of money that he found believing that the owner is surely looking for it,” the MIAA said.

A Korean national later claimed the money, which he said fell out of his pocket while he was going down the ramp.

According to the MIAA, security camera footage at the airport confirmed the Korean national as the owner of the money.

Meanwhile, a Terminal 3 security guard turned over a bag — containing a laptop, smartphone, and gold necklace — which the owner claimed on Tuesday.

The MIAA said the security guard, identified as Albert Bautista, found the lost item at the Bay 7 of the airport terminal on April 14.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines praised the employees and likewise ordered the awarding of commendation during the agency’s flag ceremony in May.

“Hats off to Messrs Victor Perez and Albert Bautista for their honesty. Both should be emulated by everyone in NAIA. Let the culture of honesty thrive in the midst of endless temptations around us,” Ines said. – avds
