More PCG floating assets to arrive in Dumaguete next year

DUMAGUETE CITY – Additional floating assets will arrive for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station in Dumaguete City, the provincial capital of Negros Oriental, by next year.

Coast Guard Dumaguete station commander Lt. Junior Grade Donna Liza Ramacho confirmed Wednesday that more weapons and personnel are also expected.

She said they await the share of aluminum boats or speedboats and even jet skis, including the fast boats similar to those of the Philippine Navy, for the Coast Guard.

According to her, the creation of an additional coast guard district is not a challenge but a room for so many opportunities for them to render service more effectively and efficiently.

The Philippine Coast Guard created the Coast Guard Southern Visayas District in line with its thrust of reaching out and deliver services to the countryside, on top of its traditional services that include safety of life and property, marine environmental protection, maritime security and enforcement of maritime laws.

The first Coast Guard Southern Visayas District commander is Capt. Artemio Manalo Abu, who paid a visit early this week to the Coast Guard station in Dumaguete.

The first order of the day was for coast guard personnel in the entire district to be vigilant due to the big challenges and opportunities ahead of them. (PNA)
