The National Privacy Commission on Monday condemned a video circulating online that shows a child undergoing circumcision, warning the public against posting sensitive videos involving minors.

In a statement, the NPC made the appeal as sharing such sensitive content would expose minors to potential cyberbullying and “infringes upon their privacy and dignity”.

“The privacy and dignity of our children must be safeguarded at all costs,” the agency said.

NPC urged the public to report such videos to platform administrators if they encounter it online, so that content violating privacy standards will be removed immediately.

“Let us uphold our responsibility in maintaining a safe and respectful online environment for everyone,” it said.

The unauthorized sharing of videos or images involving children not only violates their privacy rights, but may “also lead to serious psychological and social consequences”, NPC stated.

It also called on healthcare providers to remind parents and guardians against taking pictures and videos of medical operations and the importance of responsible social media usage. – avds
