President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed transport agencies to prioritize the enhancement of the country’s airport facilities and services as part of the government’s efforts to boost tourism.

Marcos issued the directive during a Cabinet meeting in Malacañang in Manila Tuesday morning.

“We have directed our transportation agencies to prioritize the enhancement of our airport facilities,” Marcos said in a social media post.

“Our goals are to make the traveler experience more efficient and comfortable, to boost tourism, and to drive significant economic growth for the country,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Finance Sec. Ralph Recto, Socioeconomic Planning Sec. Arsenio Balisacan, Budget Sec. Amenah Pangandaman, Energy Sec. Raphael Lotilla, Housing Sec. Jerry Acuzar, Public Works and Highways Sec. Manuel Bonoan, Trade Sec. Alfredo Pascual, and Transportation Sec. Jaime Bautista.

Marcos has pledged to improve the operations of the country’s major airports, particularly the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay and Parañaque, to ensure ease of travel and to strengthen the country’s tourism sector.

Last March, the President witnessed the signing of the P170.6 billion, public-private partnership (PPP) modernization agreement between the government and the San Miguel Corporation-led consortium for the rehabilitation of NAIA.
