The Department of Science and Technology Region 10 (DOST-10), together with local governments in Northern Mindanao and stakeholders, will attempt to set a new Guinness world record for the Philippines by planting as much bamboo as they can in one hour.
The world record venture was launched by the DOST-10, Bukidnon officials, and the CDO City Hall.
According to the Cagayan de Oro City Information Office, the city will join the mass bamboo-planting activity scheduled in late September, coinciding with the Philippine Bamboo Month and World Bamboo Day (September 18).
“Northern Mindanao, including Cagayan de Oro City, will join in this activity,” City Administrator Roy Hilario Raagas said during Monday’s flag raising ceremony.
“About 10 hectares in Sitio Pamalihi, Barangay Pangatpat, will be set aside (for this activity),” he added.
The City Agricultural Productivity Office and the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) will spearhead the activity.
Raagas also said a team from Guinness will validate the result. – iro
