The crime rate in the Philippines saw a significant decline in the first two years of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration, based on the latest data released by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a statement Tuesday, PNP said it has recorded a total of 83,059 incidents from July 1, 2022 to July 28, 2024—a 61.87% drop from the 217,830 reported incidents during the same period of 2016 to 2018.
According to PNP, crimes against persons decreased by 55.69%—including murder, homicide, physical injuries, and rape.
“Specifically, we recorded reductions of 11,641 in murders, 2,420 in homicides, 2,719 in rape incidents, and a notable decrease of 34,966 in physical injuries,” the agency said.
“Similarly, crimes against property, such as robbery, theft, and carnapping, registered a significant decline of 66.81%, with reported cases dropping from 124,799 to 41,420 during the same comparative periods,” it added.
The agency also touted its efforts in operational efficiency, with a 27.13% rise in crime clearance efficiency rate and a 10.28% increase in crime solution efficiency rate.
Notably, authorities have also seized P35.6 billion worth of illegal drugs and apprehended 122,309 individuals involved in drug-related offenses.
The PNP said these latest data underscore the effectiveness of the agency’s strategies and proactive measures in maintaining peace and order.
“The PNP remains steadfast in upholding justice, accountability, and respect for human life. We continue to implement a balanced approach to law enforcement that combines effective crime prevention with a strong commitment to protecting human rights. Our priority is public safety while ensuring that the dignity of every individual is respected and upheld,” it said.
