The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed its preventive maintenance project along the Manila South Road (MSR) on Wednesday.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 4A Director Jovel Mendoza, said that the road maintenance project focused on the rehabilitation and improvement of the 1.164-kilometer, four (4)-lane stretch of the Manila South Road, which traverses Barangays San Roque, V-A, and San Rafael in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Prior to rehabilitation, the said southern thoroughfare was in urgent need of repairs due to numerous potholes, deteriorating asphalt, and inadequate drainage facilities, all of which compromised the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The project involves resurfacing the road with bituminous concrete surface binder and wearing courses, improving the drainage system to prevent flooding, and installing reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings to enhance road safety and visibility.

“The rehabilitated Manila South Road passing Poblacion Road is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient transportation for residents of San Pablo City and travelers across Laguna Province and nearby municipalities,” said Dir. Mendoza.

Implemented by the DPWH Laguna Third District Engineering Office, the preventive maintenance project along the Manila South Road (MSR) in San Pablo City, Laguna was completed in the amount of P60.8 million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
