Recognizing the vital role of educators in molding the Filipino youth, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to collaborate on providing a higher Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) of public school teachers.

The President met with Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and Education Secretary Sonny Angara at the sidelines of the ceremonial signing of the “Basic Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act” in Malacañang on Monday.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the Chief Executive also instructed the DBM and DepEd to explore budgetary measures to ensure implementation of the SRI increase, while remaining mindful of fiscal responsibilities.

The government aims to increase the SRI of over 1 million DepEd personnel from the current P18,000 to P20,000.

The implementation as well as the timeline for the SRI hike will be announced once the necessary funding mechanisms are finalized, the Presidential Communications Office said.

The SRI is granted to government employees annually in recognition of their commitment to public service.
