Filipino food still among world’s best in 2024

All-time favorites sinigang and inasal na manok continue to represent Filipino flavors as both grubs were included in the year-end list of “100 Best Dishes in the World” by global food website TasteAtlas.

Garnering a rating of 4.51 out of 5 stars, sinigang landed at the 41st spot in the food encyclopedia’s top dishes for 2024-2025—up from last year’s 97th place.

“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” TasteAtlas said.

Bacolod City’s important cultural property as the Visayas region’s signature dish, inasal na manok, ranked 72nd with a rating of 4.47 out of 5 stars.

Colombia’s traditional roasted pig, lechona, topped the list, followed by Italy’s pizza napoletana, Brazil’s picanha or beef dish, Algeria’s noodle dish rechta, and Thailand’s phanaeng curry.

Meanwhile, Filipino cuisine as a whole placed 36th among the “100 Best Cuisines in the World.”

Greek, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, and Portuguese cuisines rounded out the top five.

An online database for culinary exploration, TasteAtlas curated its best dishes list after evaluating a total of 367,847 valid ratings for 11,258 dishes; the best cuisines list was determined based on 477,287 valid ratings for about 15,478 foods in its database.
