The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the first phase of a road infrastructure project which is said to enhance transportation access for residents and local farmers in Barangay Malibago, Torrijos, Marinduque.

In his report to Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald Pacanan identified the project as the Malibago-Balagbag Ridge Road Project, which is crucial in improving connectivity in the area and facilitating local growth.

The completion of said project’s first phase, stretching 1.94 kilometers in length, is in line with the Build Better More Program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which is focused on developing and improving local road networks to spur economic and agricultural productivity especially in remote areas across the country.

The road is poised to reduce travel time significantly, from one (1) hour to only 10-15 minutes, pivotal in the faster and smoother movement of goods and services, instrumental to the expansion of more economic opportunities in said locale.

Other features of the road project include the construction of a 1.86-kilometer lined canal with concrete shoulder on both sides, including the installation of 30 solar street lights to ensure the safety and resiliency of the road structure against extreme weather conditions.
