Nineteen areas in the country are set to experience dangerous heat index levels, according to the 5:00 a.m. forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, April 13.
The following locales in Luzon and Visayas are expected to have heat indices ranging from 42°C to 45°C:
NAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila – 42°C
Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
Bacnotan, La Union – 42°C
ISU, Echague, Isabela – 42°C
Baler, Aurora – 42°C
Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City – 42°C
San Ildefonso, Bulacan – 44°C
TAU Camiling, Tarlac – 42°C
Sangley Point, Cavite – 44°C
Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas – 43°C
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42°C
Puerto Princesa, Palawan – 42°C
Cuyo, Palawan – 43°C
Virac, Catanduanes – 44°C
Masbate City, Masbate – 43°C
Roxas City, Capiz – 43°C
Iloilo City, Iloilo – 43°C
Dumangas, Iloilo – 42°C
Catarman, Northern Samar – 42°C
PAGASA defines heat index as the measurement of the temperature felt by the human body in conjunction with humidity. The “danger” category consists of heat indices between 42°C to 51°C.
The state weather agency also warns the public of the effects of prolonged exposure to such high temperatures, which may include dehydration, fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
Meanwhile, in its daily weather bulletin, PAGASA said that the easterlies will be affecting the country, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Zamboanga Peninsula, as well as the provinces of Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi.
It will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
No low pressure areas are being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, the state weather bureau said.
