The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) partnered with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to deliver President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ‘s promised P20 per kilo rice closer to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families, DMW Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac announced Wednesday.

Cacdac said it was part of the DA’s Kadiwa program under the Marcos administration, which aims to make quality and affordable goods and commodities more accessible to the public by connecting consumers directly to farmers, fisherfolk, and microenterprises.

DMW chief said, “Our President Marcos Jr. truly values our OFWs, our modern-day heroes in our Bagong Pilipinas. The government’s efforts to ensure affordable rice to Filipino households also flow to OFWs and their families, which is being felt in communities.”

The P20/kg rice will be available at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo store in DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City. However, no date has yet been specified for the said rollout.

‘Agri-preneurs’

Meanwhile, the DMW said it is also collaborating with DA to provide comprehensive support and technical assistance to OFWs and their families who want to venture into agribusiness.

This partnership is part of DMW’s entrepreneurship development efforts under its national reintegration program. “The agricultural sector is a worthwhile business and investment opportunity for our dear OFWs. The DMW is partnering with the DA to support them as we promote agribusiness as a sustainable and viable program for the reintegration of OFWs,” Cacdac said.
