Families affected by ‘Vinta’ reach 118K: NDRRMC

MANILA — The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday reported that the number of affected families due to typhoon “Vinta” has climbed to 118,596 or 555,409 persons in MIMAROPA, Regions 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and CARAGA.

NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said of the total number, 19,485 families or 90,987 persons are housed in 246 evacuation centers while 12, 189 families or 61,172 individuals are being assisted outside evacuation camps.

“Vinta” also left 164 people dead and 170 missing.

The NDRRMC, however, clarified that the data are still being validated.

Jalad added that 2,333 houses were damaged — 1,507 totally and 826 partially –in MIMAROPA and Regions 9, 10, 11 and ARMM. (PNA)
