The results of an Octa Research survey showed that more than half, or 57 percent, of Filipinos are in favor of the Philippines rejoining the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Tugon ng Masa survey, conducted from April 22 to 24, showed 37 percent opposed the idea, while 6 percent were undecided.

The majority, or 60 percent, of the respondents in Metro Manila, Luzon, and the Visayas support the move.

The strongest opposition was seen in Mindanao, with 66 percent of the respondents rejecting the idea and only 30 percent in favor.

High awareness of the ICC was seen among adult respondents, with 85 percent saying they had heard or read about the court.

The survey also indicated that about half of the respondents from all socioeconomic classes and age brackets showed support for the country’s return to ICC.

The survey had 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above interviewed face-to-face. It has a margin of error of ±3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

The Philippines withdrew from the ICC’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute, in 2019. (PNA)
