NDRRMC: Reported deaths from severe weather conditions climb to 12

The reported deaths from the adverse effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising (Wipha), Dante (Francisco), and Emong (Co-May) have climbed to 12, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its latest situation report, the agency said only two of these fatalities have been confirmed—one each in Northern Mindanao and Caraga region.

Meanwhile, 10 fatalities are being verified—three in CALABARZON; two each in Northern Mindanao and Western Visayas, and one each in Davao region, MIMAROPA, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The disaster response body has also received reports of eight missing persons, two of whom have been confirmed and both are from Western Visayas.

Still being validated are the remaining six—three in NCR, two in CALABARZON, and one in Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC reported that the number of affected families has increased to 765,869, equivalent to 2,733,646 persons, residing in 3,712 barangays across 17 regions nationwide.

As of this time, 40,487 families are being aided and sheltered in 1,117 evacuation centers, while another 23,830 families are receiving aid outside evacuation centers.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) earlier defined “affected” families as those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residences.

It also reported that 2,008 houses were “partially damaged” and 423 were “totally damaged”.

Meanwhile, the amount of damage to agriculture and infrastructure was estimated at P366.77 million and P3.77 billion, respectively. (PNA)
