District hospital under probe for patient’s death

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is set to investigate the Bayambang District Hospital (BDH) with regard a complaint filed by relatives of a patient who died last week.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman said on Wednesday that the investigation would be conducted to appease the relatives of one Henry Abalos and enlighten them as to the actual cause of his death.

The demise of Abalos is being blamed by his relatives to the alleged negligence of hospital staff.

Dr. Elizabeth Bautista, the attending physician, however, denied the allegation, saying Abalos was an active pulmonary patient and died due to tuberculosis.

It was learned that an antacid was injected on the patient to neutralize the acid in his stomach. Relatives of Abalos, however, believed it triggered the patient’s death. (AhicamPasion/PNA)
