On the heels of the ‘Konektadong Pinoy’ bill lapsing into effectivity on Sunday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment towards improving the country’s digital infrastructure to tap into the full potential offered by modern technology to Filipinos.
In his speech at the Manila Tech Summit 2025 in Taguig City late on Monday, he emphasized the vital role of digital technology in improving governance, bolstering economic growth, and enabling the nation to keep pace with other countries on the global stage.
President Marcos declared, “Sa bahagi naman ng pamahalaan, titiyakin natin na maitatayo ang mga imprastraktura at mapalalakas ang mga polisiya upang makasabay ang ating bansa sa bilis ng pagbabago ng mundo.”
He added, “We aim to provide a government where technology is optimized to improve service delivery, efficiency, and transparency.”
The Chief Executive announced that as of 2024, financial technologies encompass half of the country’s payment transactions, paving the way for safer and more convenient bill payments and remittances for Filipinos.
And with the digital economy reaching a value of P2.25 trillion and generating over 11 million jobs, the President stated that there is more room for growth and innovation moving forward.
Previously, the Marcos Jr. administration has made key initiatives aligned with the Chief Executive’s vision of a digitally-empowered, connected, and future-ready Philippines, such as the launch of the National Fiber Backbone (NFB) Phases 1, 2, and 3, which is set to be completed by 2028.
Other notable developments in the country’s digital landscape include the Free Wi-Fi for all program, which provides reliable internet access at no expense to its intended beneficiaries.
