Agri damage for ‘Vinta’ shoots up to P247.4-M

MANILA – Tropical Storm Vinta has so far caused PHP247,471,090 worth of agricultural damage in the Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, and CARAGA regions.

In an update issued Thursday, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Ricardo Jalad said the figure can be broken down into PHP44,285,000 for Zamboanga del Sur; PHP195,384,815 for Lanao del Norte in Northern Mindanao; and PHP7,801,275 for Agusan del Sur in CARAGA.

Infrastructure damage for Zamboanga and Northern Mindanao is placed at PHP17,710,000 and PHP151,800,000, respectively for a total of PHP169,510,000.

The NDRRMC chief added that a total of 2,663 houses, 1,654 totally and 1,009 partially, were damaged in Mimaropa and Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

According to the update, four areas have been placed under a state of calamity – Tambulig in Zamboanga del Sur; Bacolod, Lanao del Norte; Labason, Zamboanga del Norte; and Salug, also in Zamboanga del Norte.

Affected families number 151,713, equivalent to 717, 043 persons, residing in 1,114 barangays in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Zamboanga, Davao, Soccsksargen, ARMM, and CARAGA. The death toll, which is still being validated, remains at 164, along with 176 individuals missing. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
